Extracts from an interview conducted by Dr. Mary Tremblay for her research into the experiences of persons with spinal care injuries in the 1940s and 1950s. She interviewed Dr. Gustave Gingras on September 20 and September 28, 1994. Dr. Gingras was the Rehabilitation Director at Ste. Anne de Bellevue DVA hospital after the Second World War and founded the Rehabilitation Institute of Montreal 1949. He relates the changes in medical attitudeon spinal care treatment in the 1940s and why the effort to teach caliper walking was a failure.
